Reliance was contracted to procure, test/adjust/balance, and commission a custom air handling unit (AHU) for a client’s administrative building. In the past, these services had been provided by multiple suppliers. However, by bundling three of our service lines, Reliance provided a custom all-in-one package, streamlining the project delivery process through internal collaboration.
Our Procurement team managed the air handler purchase, from the RFP/bidding process, bid analysis for supplier selection, placing the order, ensuring the specs were accurate, tracking production schedules, and ultimately tracking the semis from the supplier to delivery. This detailed process saved the client hundreds of e-mails and time. Internally, our Procurement team communicated with our Commissioning and TAB teams to ensure they had the data and documentation needed to support downstream activities.
Since the Reliance Commissioning team received in-house, real-time updates on the unit delivery, they were ready as soon as the equipment arrived onsite to perform receipt verification. In addition to inspecting the unit for damage during shipping, the receipt verification process includes physically recording the asset data and confirming it matches the purchasing specifications. Reliance also collected the documentation required to create the maintenance plans for the client’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Having received accurate status updates, our TAB team arrived onsite once the unit had been installed, started-up, and the controls installation and checkouts were complete – avoiding the potential for unnecessary delays or change orders due to the system not being ready for balancing. Once onsite, our TAB team tested, adjusted, and balanced the air handling system to ensure it was operating efficiently and in accordance with design documents.
Reliance’s bundled services resulted in not only significant time and cost reduction, but also increased data integrity, improved communication and coordination between disciplines, and greater transparency. By using several of our service lines throughout the project, our client avoided the confusion of dealing with multiple companies requesting the same information, the risk of data and documentation transfer errors, scheduling gaps, and multiple supplier purchase orders and invoicing.
